RICARDO G. LOPEZ, M.D.
MEDICAL DIRECTOR
GARDNER FAMILY HEALTH NETWORK
"A PORTRAIT OF SUCCESS"
Dr. Ricardo G. Lopez is the Medical Director, Gardner Family Health Network, San José, CA. During these past years I have known him as a role model and a mentor to other Latinos that are interested in community medical practice.
He has developed training and orientation programs which allow young Latinos an opportunity to become volunteers in clinics. He has encouraged many to complete their education so they may qualify through their training to become career licensed health care professionals.
Dr. Lopez was born in Flagstaff, AZ; was raised in San José, CA., and attended James Lick High School. Subsequently he attended and graduated from Santa Clara University; successfully got through medical school at UC Davis, and completed the Family Practice Residency Program at San José Hospital. Then he opened a private practice in downtown San José and continued to be an attending physician of the residency program. He found time to be the Volunteer Medical Director for the first High School Based Clinics at San José and Overfelt high schools of the East Side Union High School District. These school based clinics are commonplace now but back in the mid 1980's Dr. Ricardo G. Lopez was a pioneer in this developing health care field. These school based clinics provide free accessible health care to uninsured adolescents.
Ever mindful of the needs of the poor, the uninsured, and the disenfranchised, led him to join the Gardner Clinic. Shortly after joining the Gardner Clinic, he became the Medical Director and was involved with the merger of the Alviso Health Centers with Gardner Clinic which is now known as the Gardner Family Health Network, a subsidiary of the Gardner Family Care Corporation. He has been the Medical Director of the Gardner Family Health Network for the past 8 years. As medical director not only is he involved in the day to day responsibilities, but he is responsible for and involved in the community diabetes education programs, health fairs and whatever it takes to get personal health care information to the Latino community. His personal cultural sensitivities and bilingual (English and
Spanish) language fluency have served this target community very well.
Dr. Lopez is a committed family man, having been married to Vera for over 35 years. They have three beautiful daughters, and four grandchildren that are the pride of his life. Family and community service to others in his medical profession are the cornerstones of his success.
Dr. Ricardo G. Lopez is "A Portrait of Success".
