JUAN CARLOS GUERRERO

JUAN CARLOS GUERRERO

JUAN CARLOS GUERRERO
NEWS PRODUCER, KDTV UNIVISION 14
A "PORTRAIT OF SUCCESS"

Juan Carlos Guerrero born in Tijuana, Mexico, migrated with his family to San José when he was barely 6 years old, Although neither one of his parents finished elementary school, Juan Carlos knew that, in order to forge himself a better future and to be able to help others in the community, he needed to get a higher education. Thus, he graduated from San José State University with a degree in Journalism.

After graduating he went on to get a job at Telemundo channel 48 where, he worked as a cameraman, a producer and a reporter. After 10 years at Telemundo, Juan Carlos crossed over to the general market, where he got a job as a writer at KPIX-CBS 5 where he was promoted to be a producer.

Another local station took notice and he was enticed to join KDTV Univision 14 in September of 2000, where he has been a stellar producer ever since.

With his skills and integrity, he could easily be a network producer for any show, yet he has chosen to stay in this market area to help the Latino community that welcomed him to this country when he was a child.

Juan Carlos is the mastermind behind the Monday through Friday 11pm newscasts on KTDV Univision 14.

The quality of Juan Carlos¹ work has been recognized throughout the years.

While working at KDTV, he has been awarded an Emmy for best newscast, as well as multiple awards presented by the Radio and Television News Directors Association (RTNDA).

To mention a few achievements, Juan Carlos designed a campaign to educate Hispanics about the importance of their vote. "Su Voto" campaign paved the way for thousands of Latinos to register to vote in San José and the entire Bay Area over the last several years. Juan Carlos also played a pivotal role in our citizenship campaigns, where alongside with multiple community organizations we helped thousands of viewers apply for US Citizenship. He has also led campaigns to inform the public about earthquake preparedness and immigration topics.

Juan Carlos takes time to volunteer at Linda Vista Elementary School in San José, where his daughters just started 2nd and 4th grade. He is well liked by teachers and students alike the kids even nicknamed him "Eddie Guerrero", after the late lucha libre hero.

Juan Carlos is a firm believer in social justice. He helped bring in a Union to Telemundo, in order to get the employees better wages and working conditions.

Because of his commitment to keep the Latino community well informed; of his diligence to provide high quality newscasts to an underserved population; because of his ability to tackle any obstacles along the way with class and good humor; and his perseverance to work harder for the thousands of Hispanics who depend on KDTV to get their news, Juan Carlos is a true "Portrait of Success".
